Prehistoric Site in Sammokdo

With the exception of the Amsadong remains in the midwestern inland area, this site, located in the Yellow Sea island area, is the largest prehistoric site (17 dwellings).
It helped to advance the studies about the lives and residential style of a community in the city apart from the studies focused on the shell mounds.
In short, many experts have theorized that not every site along the Yellow Sea island area was founded by inland residents visiting temporarily to gather marine resources.
It provides a new opportunity to study the Neolithic culture of the Yellow Sea island area with the remains and facilities found in the dwellings.
Seventeen pit dwellings, one pit, one square stone mound, and one Joseon-era column for a floor heating system were found.
