Monument of Yang Ju-seong

Metal Monument in Yangjuseong Castle
This brass monument was built to honor the military officer Yang Ju-seong.In the 12th year of Emperor Gojong, the Japanese fleet Unyangho bombarded and occupied Yeongjongjin Fortress.
In August of the same year, the royal court promoted Incheon to Bangeoyeong and appointed Yang Ju-seong, who was a Hongmungwan officer, as Cheomjeoljesa (Cheomsa of Yeongjong).

During Yang Ju-seong’s tenure as a Cheomsa of Yeongjong, he completed the new Yeongjong Bangeoyeong and made the residents aware of the importance of national defense, focusing on reinforcement of armaments.
As he strengthened defenses and governed well, inhabitants erected the monument from bronzewares to honor him.
