Easy and fun modern literature experience
The Museum of Korean Modern Literature is a space created by Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Cultural Foundation.
Here, you can see the history of modern Korean literature at a glance and experience the literature in various forms. In the permanent exhibition room, you can see the history of Korea's modern literature from 1894 to 1948. By organizing the exhibition room in the form of a magazine, you can see the formation and historical flow of modern Korean literature at a glance.
The Museum of Korean Modern Literature is a place where you can not only see important literary works of the time with your own eyes, but also enjoy modern literature in an easy and fun way.
It is interesting to note the writing styles different from today's, such as the vertical writing in the work, the right-to-left writing method of woojongseo (vertical writing), and the writing of Chinese characters.
You can see works of artists that were not covered in the public school curriculum because of pro-Japanese realities of the colonial era and the North-South Korea division and ideological differences. In addition to poetry and novels, you can see various literary types such as plays, essays, and popular literature.
Along with permanent exhibitions, there are various special exhibitions based on literature and humanities, small exhibitions where you can see rare materials based on various subjects, humanities lectures, and educational programs.

Incheon is an open port city, and since its opening in 1883, the modern culture of the West has been intensively introduced through it.

Transformation of the open port warehouse
The area of Jung-gu, Incheon well-preserved the unique multinational urban landscape and modern architecture of the open port.
There are still many buildings and storehouses around Incheon Port that have survived nearly a hundred years. The Modern Korean Literature Museum was created by remodeling these warehouse buildings.
After two years of construction, the warehouse buildings that were used as a distribution warehouse and a kimchi factory was reborn as the Museum of Korean Modern Literature where you can experience and learn Korean modern literature and humanities through exhibitions, education programs, and events.
The warehouse building in Incheon Port was designed to provide a place where you can experience Korean Modern Literature. The Museum was remodeled from several warehouses into four buildings, and three of them are spaces where you can see exhibitions.
Building Ga (A) is where special exhibitions are held, and permanent exhibitions are in Buildings Na (B) and Da (C). The three buildings are connected through lobbies and stairs, so you can enjoy the exhibition following the guided path. The Museum of Korean Modern Literature is a historically meaningful space, and because of its architectural excellence and beauty, it was awarded the Excellence Prize in the Building Construction Section for the 2014 Korea Architecture Awards.
