Incheon Dapdong Cathedral of St. Paul

A beautiful exterior with a pointed dome!

In 1889, Father J. Wilhelm of the Paris Evangelical Missionary Society in France took over as the first parish priest, and laid the cornerstone of the cathedral on the hill in Dapdong. He later had a Gothic-style building built in 1897 under the design of Father E. Coste.

It underwent reconstruction work to build up the brickwork of the existing outer frame, and was transformed into the Romanesque style in 1937.

The main material of the flat surface in the cathedral was red brick, and granite was used for important sections. There are entrances at the center and on either side at the front, and rose-shaped windows above the central entrance. A large tower was placed in the center of the building, a sloping roof with wings, and a small decorative tower at the end. The three bell towers at the front further enhance the vertical climb of the building. Inside, there are auxiliary buildings such as a nunnery and kindergarten.
