The station started operating on September 18, 1899, and continues to be where a lot of cargo and passengers travel through today.
It first became a subway station with the opening of metropolitan subway line 1 in 1974, and in 2016, the Suin Line (Incheon-Oido)was reopened and the route was expanded.
There is a stone sculpture of a steam locomotive in front of the station, making the place known as the ‘birthplace of the Korean railway’.
