Incheon Jungdong Post Office

Incheon Jungdong Post OfficeThe cornerstone of Korea's postal business
City Tangible Cultural Property No. 8

A Post Office Delivering Joyful News for 130 Years
The country was taken over by Japan in 1910 through the merger between Korea and Japan, but the right to communication was taken five years before that in 1905.
Japan seized Korea's telecommunications rights and integrated the domestic telecommunications agencies with the Japanese post office. Afterwards, exchanges with other countries became more active and the port of Incheon was rapidly developed, which quickly increased the population and the number of postal users.
As such, in December 1923, the Incheon Post Office was moved into a two-story building established on a landfill in Hang-dong, Jung-gu for purposes of expansion and more accessibility.

The new Incheon Post Office building had an unusual shape as it was built following the Western style that was a simplification of the eclectic style popular at the time.
It was a building that blended Western and Japanese styles appropriately, so it immediately caught people's attention.
It is a two-story brick building with granite treated in a roughly polished way to make it look like a podium, and bricks are stacked on top of it.
110th Anniversary Monument in front of the building
In front of the Jungdong Post Office, which has been well preserved for over 100 years, there is a monument to the 110th anniversary of the founding of the country.
Looking at the oldest and most beautiful post office building in Incheon, you can feel the historical symbolism of the Jungdong Post Office and its value as a cultural property.
