EraMid Joseon Dynasty

The Wolmido Haenggung Palace (temporary palace) site is located at the site where Standard Oil was until the end of the war, on the eastern coast of Wolmido island.

According to Yeojidoseo, Yun Gyeok, the vice supervisor of the department recording the literature of Incheon, established the Wolmi Haenggung Palace, which is toward the south, at the Imhaesa Temple site.

After the Second Manchu Invasion of Korea (Byeongjahoran), Wolmi Haenggung Palace, which is located at the entry to the waterway that flows through Incheon, Wolmido Island, Yeongjongdo Island, and Ganghwa, became one of the temporary palaces for the king.

During the Second Manchu Invasion of Korea, the King tried to take refuge in Ganghwado Island, but he could not, and thus took refuge in Namhansanseong Fortress instead.
However, Namhansanseong Fortress was occupied by Huang Tai Ji, and King Injo was made to kneel in humiliation. As a result, many of his retainers argued that if it was possible to go to Ganghwa through Incheon,
King Injo would not have suffered such an insult. Reflecting this opinion, he constructed the palace in Wolmido island, which is located between Seoul and Ganghwa.
